Andrew Jackson
The 7tht President of the United States served from 1829 to 1837. Andrew Jackson was born in South Carolina on March 15, 1767, and died June 8, 1845 near Nashville, TN. He was a member of the Democrat Party, and was married to Rachel Jackson.
Jackson's signature appears on a portion of a sea letter. A sea letter is maritime certificate that provided proof of nationality for a ship and her owner. Sea letters typically repeated the same text in four different languages - French, Spanish, English and Dutch. The example we see here is only the top right quarter of the entire document. The French and Spanish sections on the left was clipped away leaving only the English and Dutch portion, and additional text was clipped below the Secretary of State signature.
